Alltel representatives were quick to point out the that new cellular data network will take between 3 to 5 years before its reach would be far enough to go live. Alltel's announcement shows a further turning tide in cellular technologies towards GSM based offerings, a move echoed by Verizon Wireless' move towards the LTE 4G Network techology.
Currently AT&T, Alltel, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless have announced plans to implement LTE, while Sprint Nextel is still standing behind their own WiMax 4G Technology. AT&T Announced this week that they plan for LTE to reach speeds up to 100Mbps per second in ideal positions, with realistic goals set at 20Mpbs by 2009.
