Thursday - May 15th 2008 -- AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega is aiming for higher download speeds when the company opens its new 4G network, speeds that will push the HSPA network to the forefront of cellular data speeds.

The new AT&T Wireless data speeds will come with the companies new choice of 4G technology known as Long Term Evolution also known as LTE. The company expects AT&T Wireless customers to be able to download at speeds up to 10Mbps by 2009, with speeds reaching 100Mbps by 2010.

Its important to note that those speeds will only be achievable in optimized settings, such as the lab tests recently concluded by Nokia Siemens, while customer speeds will be significantly slower, yet still much faster than current standards which peak at 7.2Mbps on the fastest available networks.

The LTE technology has yet to be released and is still undergoing rigourous testing standards before a set of guidelines is released.
