Last week Google announced plans to test White Space Spectrum space, this week its the CTIA that has announced new plans for the "white spectrum" a move that would license the space for commercial use.
The "White Spectrum" as it is known, is the space that exists between TV Channels. Google announced last week that they had developed technology that would allow for use of the spectrum without affecting the surround channels. Google would like to see the space used by anyone interested in the space. The CTIA on the other hand has sided with Sprint Nextel, and T-Mobile, and are asking that the FTC license the space and all use be for paying entities only.
Google would like to see the space used for high speed internet access, but their requests are still on the backburner as the FTC continues to test the current technologies available, while ensuring they don't interfere with tv channel that surround the network.
