FCC Final Report Approves White Space Spectrum Use |

The FCC has ruled that White Space spectrum does not cause the harm to cellular networks believed to be caused by Telecom companies. The FCC in a final report stated that Wireless broadband services can exist on the spectrum "without a significant risk of harmful interference." to cellular networks. The White Spectrum airwaves can now be auctioned off by the FCC to provide free wireless internet services with 50% of the U.S. population expected to be covered by 2012 with a 95% coverage rate by 2018 according to FCC estimates. The final report comes at a time when companies such as T-mobile have fought long and hard to prevent the white spectrum which is found between wireless spectrum, which they claim will interfer with their own networks ability to deliver interference free calling. Google on the other hand has fought to secure the spectrum as a means to deliver high quality free internet to U.S. citizens. Find out more at: Wall Street Journal
