Garmin Suprises Industry, Announces Cell Phone

Garmin, maker of GPS products worldwide, shocked many industry experts this week when they announced the addition of a new cell phone to their line of products. The product resembles a more ruggedized version of the iPhone, while sporting a host of software applications from internet company Google Inc.

The devices features an impressive touch screen and an ultra fast 3G HSDPA internet connection. The new Garmin Nuvifone as it has been named, will also feature several prominent Google features, including Local Search, Gmail, and Google Panarimo.

The device will also partner together Google Technology with Garmin GPS capabilities through a program named "Where Am I?" which pinpoints user location, and automatically pulls up locations to the nearest Hospitals, police stations and gas stations, while also showing the users coordinated.

The Nuvifone will also feature many mobilitiy standards such as MP3 access, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g internet access, bluetooth, and of course a full set of GPS funtionality, including RDS-TMC Traffic reports, and the ability to take pictures and shoot video.

No pricing is currently available for the Garmin Nuvifone, and there is yet to be an attached carrier for the device which is expected to be available in the 3rd Quarter of 2008.
