Last week we reported on recent talks between Google and several US Based cellular Carriers, including Verizon and T-Mobile, today Google has announced which carriers will offer the new Google based Cellular handset. The company has also announced which handset manufacturers will carry the device, among the manufacturers is HTC, the main manufacturer of Windows Mobile devices worldwide, a move that was expected by many industry insiders. {mosgoogle} Aside from HTC, several other cell phone manufacturers have also jumped on board, they include, LG, Motorola, and Samsung. The devices will be sold through Sprint and T-mobile, and at this point at least, not through Verizon whom Google was recently in talks with. Google also plans to make the devices available in several other parts of the world upon their launch, offering the Google Mobile OS through China Mobile, TIM and Telefonica worldwide. Users shouldl feel the effects of the Google OS immediately, as Google will not charge handset manufacturers to install their Operating systems, currently OS software engineers such as Microsoft and Symbian charge carriers a licensing fee per unit, driving up the cost per unit sold. Google is also promising sleek new internet browsing capabilities to rival the iPhone while offering handsets below iPhone costs. Google in turn will make money by selling ad space as they have done with their ultra popular Internet based adsense offering. Throw in the open source code of the software package and it appears the Google OS will also be more developer friendly than other Mobile Operating Systems on the market. |
