Google Introduces Android OS for Mobile Devices

Google Inc. offered more information regarding the Google Mobile Operating System today via their official blog. The device will be called Android and will run as previously reported on the Linux operating system, an OS that has recently become a rising star in the cellular device market. Furthermore Google is promising that the open source Mobile OS will offer a more comprehensive interface, further reflecting the true interface of a computer desktop.

According to Google, Android will  be the first "Truly open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices." The OS will include an operating system, user-interface and applications. The application will partner with the Open Handset Alliance, which includes players such as Motorola, Qualcomm, T-Mobile, HTC, and over 30 others.

Google did state the the process will be slow in terms of showing overall benefits, and they expect to release the Operating System by the second half of 2008. Google representatives did state that Android is not meant to replace their current Mobile stragety but rather will be put in place to complement it.
