In a move to obtain wireless spectrum Google filed papers with the FCC today that the company hopes will pave the way to the use of 'white space' spectrum for mobile broadband services.

White space spectrum exists as the unused areas of spectrum found between analog digital channels. In the past the space was left unused because it could interfer with the spectrum it surrounds. However, Google has stated that they are working on a new technology that can better manage the 'white space' thus allowing for its use.  Google is not the first organization to look for 'white space' uses. The FCC themsevles have been testing the white spaces in the hopes that they could fine an effective use for it.

The actual uses for the 'white space' were not released by Google at this time.
