iPhoneAt the recent Web 2.0 Expo, during the keynote speech, Stephen Elop from Microsoft's Business Division hinted that Microsoft Office may soon be making its way to the iPhone, though we are not exactly certain when. Elop backtracked just a bit after being caught on the comment by Tim O'Reilly, stating that Office isn't coming to the iPhone just yet, but that we should keep watching out for it. Obviously what this tells us is that an iPhone compatible version of Office is absolutely on his mind.

Rumors of an Office client intended for the iPhone have been circulating for more than a year now, and users are certainly clamoring for a way that they can edit their Excel and Word Files on the go. The iPhone already allows for them to view these files, but not to edit them or create them so this editing functionality would definitely be appreciated. There are also some unofficial suites for editing on the way, including Quick Office which was recently announced as a suite of compatible applications for editing office files, although Quick Office has yet to be released to the public.
