Microsoft Exchange support has been available for many handsets, including those using the Symbian and Blackberry Operating systems, but has been lacking on the iPhone. In order to use the application Apple has licensed Active Sync from Microsoft a move that will allow the iPhone to support push Exchange email while also allowing access to sync contacts and calendar information.
iPhone users will also be able to integrate the new add-on feature into their email tab, which will allow users to turn the features of the new add-on off and on as they see fit.
The new iPhone mail exchange program will also support enterprise features such as remote device wipe, 802.1x and WPA2 security, enterprise device configuration and Cisco VPN services.
Apple will release the new features for exchange in June 2008 when firmware 2.0 is released.
