Sunday, August 24th 2008 --  Motorola continues to innovate outside of handset manufacturing. The company has announced their next generation push-to-talk technology that works on the CDMA EVDO Rev. A network, a move that signals the deteriorating appear of iDen networks such as Nextel which currently support the technology.

The PTT over cellular technology, also know as PoC is utilized using a specialized piece of software which allows PTT calls to be made over Rev. A networks.  Using the technology CDMA customers such as those found on Verizon wireless can essentially make walkie talkie calls in the same manner offered by Nextel.

The new PoC technology is expected to compete with Qchat, a service available from Qualcomm which also allows Rev A CDMA customers the option of using push to talk technology.

Verizon Wireless has already announced plans to use PTT services from Motorola to power their network. The exact date of delivery is yet unknown.
