Nokia and Qualcomm may be in a never ending court battle, but the cell phone manufacturer has filed court papers claiming that Nokia has paid Qualcomm over $1 Billion dollars for the use of patented technology over the last 15 years.

Nokia believes that the $1 billion dollars paid over one and a half decades more than makes up for the patent battles they are currently facing. Nokia goes on to claim that the money paid should allow them the rights to use Qualcomm patent technologies free of charge moving forward. Qualcomm of course has disagreed with Nokia's claims.
Although Nokia and Qualcomm had originally struck cross-licensing agreements in 1992 and then one more time in 2001, those patent licenses expired per their contracts end date of April 2007. The cellular battle is currently underway in several courts and involves all joint operating patents from the original cross-licensing agreements.
