The Edge Data network is getting a much needed boost, thanks to the work of Nokia Siemens Networks. The new upgrade to the existing system will greatly increase wireless data speeds for Edge based devices.

The upgraded Edge Evolution will give Edge a speed boost to 592Kbps. The technology works on the downlink dual Carrier edge technology and is set to be released by Q3 of 2008.

Nokia Siemens isn't stopping there, they have also announced plans to release EGPRS 2, a program that will further the speeds of the edge network to 1.2Mbps with uplink speeds of 472Kbps. That software however is still under development and has no release date attached to it at this time.
