OpenMoko Forms Independent Company

OpenMoko, creator of the first completely integrated open source mobile platform, announced today that they will operate as a seperate company from financial backer FIC, a move that will allow the company to forge their own business models for open source cellular devices.

First International Computer, Inc (FIC) is a worldwide leader in the manufacturing of Motherboards, Graphics Cards, PC Systems, Notebooks, Mobile Solutions, and other electronic devices. FIC will continue to oversee the OpenMoko development and manufacture handsets for the Open Source Mobilily Company.

FIC President Charlene Chen stated "By making OpenMoko a company in its own right, we are giving what started as a highly important project the status and budget to break new ground by making open source a viable business for software as well as hardware developers, "

The developer version of OpenMoko is currently available at www.openmoko.com with a full consumer version planned for deployment in 2008.
