Palm CEO Ed Colligan announced today that the Palm Foleo "in its current configuration" will not be released. Instead Palm Inc. will focus on a singular platform and their current partnerships.
Palm announced that the Foleo would be cancelled to free up resources for focusing on and delivering their next generation platform and the first smartphones that will bring the plaform to market.
{mosgoogle left}However, Mr Colligan did go on to state, "Jeff Hawkins and I still believe that the market category defined by Foleo has enormous potential. When we do Foleo II it will be based on our new platform, and we think it will deliver on the promise of this new category. We're not going to speculate now on timing for a next Foleo, we just know we need to get our core platform and smartphones done first."
The Foleo cancellation is expected to cost Palm $10 million dollars in earnings. However, Mr Colligan explained that the cost of supporting two platforms at this stage would have been much higher.
With this recent move Palm will now focus on a single Palm OS in partnership with Microsoft, with the Foleo II centering around the MSFT platform.
