In a replay of the current BroadCom patent infrigement case, Nokia Corp. has asked that the FTC ban several Qualcomm chips that the company says infringes on their own patents currently in use.
Nokia Corp. has asked that the FTC to ban several Qualcomm chipsets by taking into consideration 5 of Nokias current patents. The request from Nokia comes after Qualcomm filed a similiar complaint against Nokia, stating that 6 of their own patents were infringed upon by Nokia in their own chipsets.
{mosgoogle left} This recent move by Nokia comes at a time when Qualcomm Chipsets have come under fire, most recently by BroadCom which had the FTC place a hold on shipments into the United States due to alledged patent infringement on several Qualcomm chipsets.
Nokia is claiming that the patent infringement centers around performance based enhancements that improve the efficiency as well as the performance of the chips. Nokia is claiming that the chipsets which are being used in both CDMA and WCDMA/GSM chipsets is a matter of intellectual property rights and plans to pursue the case in an evergrowing territorial battle over such intellectual properties.
