UK Based Carphone Warehouse to Open U.S. Stores |
Monday, April 7th 2008 -- Carphone Warehouse, the U.K. based company that offers cell phones and cell phone services from a variety of wireless carriers has announced plans to operate a large number of U.S. stores.
The new U.S. stores will be opened as a joint venture between Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy. The partners plan to open 1,000 retail stores throughout the U.S. while also operating boutique inside Best Buy stores.
Carphone will continue to offer cell phones and cell phone contracts from major U.S. carriers side by side. The stores will give consumers a chance to examine a variety of cellular devices and contract plans in tandem. Best Buy currently holds a modest 3% stake in Carphone Warhouse, but investors who watch for that number to grown based on the success of the companies expansion.
