Cell Phone displays are often sluggish due to the combined efforts of slow processors and the lack of 3D acceleration. Luckily that is all about to change thanks to a new chipset from Samsung that integrates 3D acceleration into their units, a move that should vastly increase video speeds.

According to Endadget, "The 65nm S3C6410 processor is based on a 667MHz ARM core but adds in 3D graphics acceleration and hardware support for H.264 and MPEG4, as well as other codecs."

Samsung is also promising that the chipset will help save battery life, while still giving the opportunity to record and play VGA resolution video.

Samsung has not yet announced where the new processors will pop up, but with a full array of support for many operating systems its only a matter of time before the new technology is implemented. Our guess would be to look towards the symbian operating system and Nokia, as they have recently snatched up a ton of Multimedia applications and hardware options for streaming and playing media.
