Sprint Wireless is struggling to retain customers and because of their losses the company will attempt to save money by eliminating jobs, and cutting out many of their retail locations nationwide, a move they expect will save them nearly 1 billion dollars a year in expenses.

Sprint announced to the WSJ that they will cut 4000 jobs, while eliminating 4000 third party distribution points.  The job cuts will include both management and non-management positions and are expected to begin before the end of the first half of 2008. The cuts are expected to save the wireless company nearly $800 million a year in operating expenses.

The move comes after the company reported losing 683,000 post-paid and 202,000 pre-paid customers in the fourth quarter of 2007, which included a hectic look for a new CEO and reports of Sprint cutting loose customers they found to be calling into their customer service center at excessive rates.
