Sprint Wireless Loses Valuable Cable Companies Support
Thursday, 24 April 2008

The troubles at Sprint Wireless continue to mount, most recently with the withdrawl of cellular service sales by some of the companies largest supporters....the cable companies.

Sprint announced this week that Comcast, Cox Communications, and Time Warner have decided to end their contractual obligations towards selling wireless services as a package deal with their cable services. In 2005 the companies had joined together in an effort to offer landline, wireless and cable services at discounted rates.

The cable companies have pointed to the large complexity of creating such offerings as at least a partial reason for ending their agreement. However it wouldn't surprise me if it was partly due to the falling stock and expectations of Sprint Wireless. I'm also curious to know whether the dissolving partnership will affect the WiMax network upon which Sprint was in part relying on the cable networks to offer their support. Regardless it is definately another in a long string of losses for Sprint Wireless.
