May 05, 2008 -- As promised last week T-Mobile is going live today with their new 3G network, a move that will allow for fast data speeds for their customer base. While the number of phones available for the network is limited, T-Mobile is promising many more handsets in the near future.
The new UMTS/HSDPA netowrk will allow T-Mobile subscribers with 1700 Mhz radios to connect to both Voice and Data connection services. The connection will be chosen based on the best available connection in the users area, meaning if your area has a high 3G output you will see faster download and upload speeds than if your area supports mainly the Edge network..
Currently T-Mobile stated in a press release today that the 1700 Mhz AWS spectrum is supported by Nokia and Samsung, although an HSDPA release schedule is expected in the near future.
While the network has not been rolled out everywhere T-Mobile will continue its expansion of their 3G network throughout 2008 and they expect to have the program completed by the end of the year.
