Sunday, June 13th 2008 -- Verizon Wireless has agreed to settle their early termination fees class action lawsuit for $21 million, a sum much less than the originally reported asking amount of $1 billion.
Verizon Wireless spokepeople meantime downplayed the settlement, actually stating that they settled because it "was a distraction" and that the $21 million was a "quick way to resolve it"
Meanwhile many regulators believe the settlement may give FCC Charimen Kevin Martin the ammo he needs to set a national set of guidelines in terms of Early Termination Fees charged by wireless carriers.
