The internet is buzzing today on the cell phone front thanks to the announcement of the Nokia XpressMusic 5800, the first Symbian based Touchscreen device, and the first touchscreen unit offered by Nokia.

The MusicXpress 5800 features Quad-bang GSM/Edge and dual-band 850/1900 MHz HSDPA 3G internet access.  The unit also offers Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Assisted GPS (A-GPS) capabilities, and WiFi 802.11 b/g capabilities.

Reuters has announced that their sources at Nokia will be announcing the companies very first Touchscreen based Symbian device at an event in London on October 2nd. The announcement comes after Nokia announced several months ago that the company would in fact release their first Touchscreen based device before the end of 2008.

No Details are known about the device at this point, and no pictures have leaked into the rumor mill at this point.

Its official! Nokia has announced that the N96 Cell phone, the newest in the N-Series of mobile phones has begun shipping in regions around the world.  The cost of the unit is set at $795 (550 Euros).  Unfortunately the first models to ship will not be the NAM versions (North American Versions) which means they won't support the American 3G data networks.  Nokia is waiting until later this year to release the N96 Nam.

The Nokia 6650 was shown off in FCC documents this week. The 3G flip phone device will feature the AT&T logo and come with a stainless steel cover.  The 3G data will be featured via HSDPA data access, while the cell phone will also feature built-in GPS, a 2 mega pixel camera, a MicroSDHC card slot, and a QVGA display. 

The device will also feature Symbian S60 3rd Edition, the newest available Symbian Operating System with Feature Pack 2.  The mobile phone will also come with WCDMA 8

Nokia N-Series Phone users who purchase their devices starting now will find an option missing, the companies included VoIP service which allows users to make calls over their WiFi networks rather than using their cellular network minutes. 

Nokia has confirmed that the N78 and N96 applications will be the first devices to lose the program. They have also announced that third party VoIP applications will still be avaialable as the SIP stock on the phones will still allow VoIP programs to opera

The Nokia India outlet let it slip recently that the Nokia N96 will begin selling on their networks this September. That announcement has led European carriers to announce similar September release plans.  According to European sources the Nokia N96 will be offered first through an exclusive offer by Dutch carrier KPN starting on September 15th, 2008, while a wide release is then expected on other carriers throughout Europe by October 15th, 2008.

Only weeks after releasing their Business model E66 andE71 devices Nokia has released new details and pictures for their Nokia N85 and N79 N-Series line of devices.  The N85 pictured below in black coloring features a 2.6 inch AMOLED screen, comes equipped with GPS built-in and offers a 5 megapixel camera along wiht N-Gage abilities, an 8GB microSDHC storage capacity, WiFi and 28 hours of playback music capabilities.

Sunday, August 24th 2008 --  The official FCC website has given a quick glimpse into the new Nokia 2680, a slider based phone with a dual band 850/1900 GSM Band setup with the AT&T logo featured on the frontside.  The unit will also feature a camera, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and basic SMS and MMS messaging plus internet browsing capabilities.  

While the device shows AT&T markings the company has yet to announce the unit for sale via their retail or online outlets.

Monday, July 28th 2008 -- Nokia has announced that they will pay the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia 1.3 million Euros after closing a plant and firing 2,300 workers. The repayment comes because the German state had originally given 4 million Euros to Nokia in order to help build the plant that is now closed.

Nokia has also announced that they are switching the plant operations over to Romania from the original Bochum facility due to lower wages.

Tuesday, July 22nd 2008 -- Nokia and Qualcomm are finally heading to court to settle a patent licensing fee disagreement that occured between 1992 and 2007. The lawsuit surrounds a long held belief by Nokia that the $1 billion dollars they paid to Qualcomm covered the maximum amount the company should pay to the technology company.

Saturday, July 12th 2008 -- The Nokia hype machine is apparently working overtime when it comes to the Nokia N96. Recently the OEM has annoucned that a limited edition packaging will be available for the N96. There is one catch however, only 96 of the devices will be available, and the cost of obtaining the limited edition packaing will not be cheap.

Thursday, July 10th 2008 -- Nokia if rumors are to be believed will be releasing two of their newest devices the Nokia 3608 and the Nokia 8208 for CDMA networks. The 3608 will be offered as a closer to entry level device starting in the China market, while the 8208 offers more functionality including 3G internet speeds via the CDMA EVDO network.

Tuesday, June 24th 2008 -- Nokia today announced that the company has bought Symbian, the mobile operating system company that powers the full line of Nokia Cell Phones, Smartphones, and Pocket PC's. Monday, June 9th 2008 - This weekend Nokia, the worldwide leader in Mobile Cell Phone manufacturing released pictures for two of their new mobile devices, the Nokia E66 and the Nokia E71 smartphones, a pleasant surprise considering the information was leaked online by accident.

The Edge Data network is getting a much needed boost, thanks to the work of Nokia Siemens Networks. The new upgrade to the existing system will greatly increase wireless data speeds for Edge based devices.
